Ringing in 2012...

Greens & ham hocks

It is rare that I get to host any family event at my home. Even at 33-years-old, I am still required to do holidays at either my parents or my in-laws homes. Now don't get me wrong, I love that they are kind enough to take these events and make them wonderful memories for my little family, but I was super excited when, at Christmas dinner, my mother said that she, my Daddy and my sister Kayla would be coming over for New Year's dinner.

Northern Beans & ham bone

I've never cooked greens, but my husband found a fantastic recipe and, even though he doesn't eat them, he made the greens and they were amazing! We did Northern beans with a ham bone (with lots of meat still on it), cheddar cornbread muffins, fried potatoes and what I have termed "the nasty bits" - which are pigs feet and tails, which I put BBQ sauce on.

We started with some fig and garlic and herb goat cheese and crackers and some Italian salami to nibble on while everything cooked. We also had a champagne drink called a Green Dragon with super cheap champagne and Midori, which was tasty.

Dinner!
It was really nice to host a dinner like this at my home and I hope to be able to do it again soon. I love to cook and to host people, and it's always nice to have a theme!

I took a few quick shots of our food with my point-and-shoot. I'm never afraid to get to close to things when I'm taking pictures. I find that some interesting elements of the food show well when you get right up on it.
